Gunsmoke: a legend that never dies

It was 57 years ago today that Gunsmoke made its debut on CBS tv, on its way to becoming the longest running prime time series of the 20th century.




The show followed the lives of Marshal Matt Dillon (James Arness), Chester Goode (Dennis Weaver), "Doc" Adams (Milburn Stone), and Miss Kitty Russell (Amanda Blake) in the frontier town of Dodge City, Kansas. Ken Curtis joined the cast as Festus Haggen near the end of season 4.
