To summarize this episode:
1. Jane
calls ‘bullshit’
2. Maura
hosts a frat party and makes Dr. Peckers for all
3. Mini-Maura
(aka Susie) takes a page from CSI
4. Vince
sings & plays guitar
5. We
only get one baby reference. Yay!
6. Wonderful
Vince/Angela moments
7. There
was a dentist involved (which I think is more horrifying than a clown!)
Last week, Maura was reluctant to do her lecture at BCU.
This week, she’s reluctant to leave for three days to attend the ME conference.
At least there was no Dr Pike this time! I just find it quite amusing (or is it
annoying?) that all of the ME’s other than Maura are portrayed as incapable.
They did the same thing with Stargate SG-1, where any scientist who wasn’t Sam
Carter was a bumbling idiot. At least Dr Crosby didn’t seem hapless, just slow.
I still think they should bring in Paula Newsome to reprise her Women’s Murder Club role of Claire
Washburn to be an occasional fill in. I miss that character.
What I found very amusing was Maura turning her room into a
‘hospitality suite with an open bar’ (aka frat party) and then being
uncomfortable with everyone else being inebriated and obnoxious. But then she
goes over to make them Dr Peckers. I think a round of “Autopsy Jeopardy” would
be…interesting.
I do enjoy the extra screen time that we’ve gotten with
Susie. I like how they’ve turned her into a mini-Maura, and having Jane
‘corrupt’ her into trying to giving guesses. The ‘Die-o-ramas’ made me think
back to CSI’s mini crime scene killer storyline. CSI also had an episode where
a ‘meat’ bullet was used so there was no bullet to be found later. At least
this one was a bit different with the dental plaster instead of meat. I did
love her ‘fruit-topsy’ quip. It was even funnier because Maura found it humorous.
Jane’s “What’s up, Chang?” greeting always seems to make me smile too. I also
like how Jane & Susie are a bit more comfortable with each other, yet not
totally. There’s something cute about that slight bit of awkwardness between
them. After all, Susie’s just a “mini-Maura” and not the real thing.
J: so, you think the killer snuck up behind her &
stabbed her?
S: I can’t say
J: well, take a guess
S: I’m a scientist.
J: so is Maura, she does it
S: I’m not Dr Isles
J: I know that, but she’s not here. So, throw out a theory.
Stretch your wings & grow. It’s your time to shine. Woo!
S: that’s a mixed metaphor
J: okay, see? There you go. That’s very Maura.
I also have to laugh at Maura’s “I’m always available by
phone, day or night” comment. Really, Maura? Jane already knows that, but I
guess since you have to remind her to take her vitamins, she needed the
reminder that she could call anytime too.
I’m just grateful that we don’t have more of the annoying
Jane/Angela stuff that we’ve had to put up with so much this season. I’ve
always loved the Angela/Korsak pairing (that’s one thing that Tess Gerritsen’s
books did correctly) and this episode came back to that again. I wonder if
they’ve given up on Cavanaugh and will go with Angela/Korsak. Lorraine & Bruce
have a great chemistry together.
And then there’s Bruce and his guitar. And this time, he
gets to sing as well. Thanks to TNT for making that audio of the song available
for download shortly after the episode aired as well.
Now, about those Jane & Maura dolls…or in-action figures? I
remember watching Sasha’s appearance on Ellen
and was talking about how they have Maura in her scrubs and holding a file, and
how her ‘shape’ wasn’t correct. It’s cute that they made fun of the ‘shape’ in
the episode too. Poor Vince almost got himself in trouble when commenting on it.
