Not only does this week bring the beginning of the end for CSI Catherine Willows, it also brings us the beginning of a new show.
Alcatraz premieres tonight. I was excited initially after seeing the first preview. After seeing a longer preview late last week, I'm not so sure what this show is really going to be like. However, there are a number of familiar names (including Rob Lawrenson, Paul McGillion, Ian Tracey, Geri Jewell, etc) that I've heard who will be appearing in this, so I've definitely got to give it a shot.
Last night, I had a chance to watch Liz Vassey in the Lifetime movie, Sexting in Suburbia. All I can say is - this lady absolutely ROCKS.
**rant**
I still can't believe that CSI couldn't figure out what to do with her character, Wendy Simms. I mean, seriously? That was a no-brainer. Get Wendy out into the field as a CSI. Instead - boneheads that they are - they got rid of her. Now do y'all understand why I've been waiting for Marg to be done with that show? Because the writers just CAN'T write a great female role. Yes, as lead actress, Marg has taken a decent role and made it great. I still have issues with them having the guys walk all over Catherine's authority when she was supervisor. (Ray & Nick, anyone?) But she brought great strength & depth to the character, even when it wasn't being written as such. (where's Ann Donahue when you needed her? Oh, yeah. One of the imitator spin-offs) But what about the other female CSI roles? Holly Gribbs was doomed from the start (a weak rookie), they couldn't write Sara very good, and then they turned it all into GSR (don't get me started); Their one great transition - Sofia from CSI to cop - ended when they just had her disappear; Riley - they never gave her a chance and just turned their focus to Ray; They were bringing Wendy along nicely, only to dump the character as well because they didn't know where to take her from there. You'd think show writers would love the fact that an actress has taken the character to much greater depth than they had envisioned. How could they not figure out what to do?
**end rant**
I think Liz, Christina Cox, Dina Meyer, Teryl Rothery & Louise Lombard should all join together and form the "Get them their own series" club. Or maybe just a "lost girls" club?
on a different subject -
I did a little more art over the weekend, including more Sam Carter (there can never be enough Carter)
